Let Every Man Examine Himself……Are You A Church Goer or A True Believer?

  • Posted on September 20, 2010 at 11:40 pm

1 Samuel 16:7 “But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Romans 12:10-16 “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble.”

One Sunday morning, an old cowboy entered a church just before services were to begin. Although the old man and his clothes were spotlessly clean, he wore jeans, a denim shirt and boots that were worn and ragged. In his hand he carried a worn-out old hat and an equally worn, dog-eared Bible.

The church he entered was in a very upscale and exclusive part of the city. It was the largest and most beautiful church the old cowboy had ever seen. The people of the congregation were all dressed with expensive clothes and fine jewelry. As the cowboy took a seat, the others moved away from him. No one greeted, spoke to, or welcomed him. They were all appalled by his appearance and did not attempt to hide it.

As the old cowboy was leaving the church, the preacher approached him and asked the cowboy to do him a favor. “Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what he thinks would be appropriate attire for worship in church.” The old cowboy assured the preacher he would.

The next Sunday, he showed back up for the services wearing the same ragged jeans, shirt, boots, and hat. Once again he was completely shunned and ignored. The preacher approached the cowboy and said, “I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church.”

“I did,” replied the old cowboy.

“And what was his reply?” asked the preacher.

“Well, sir, God told me that he didn’t have a clue what I should wear. He said he’d never been in this church.”

Are You Getting Your Wisdom and Advice From God?

  • Posted on September 7, 2010 at 11:58 pm

Proverbs 2:6-7 For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

Have you been given bad advice? Of course, who hasn’t? We have all been there.

Someone told you to turn right to go to the city yet 30 miles later when you run into corn fields and cows you realize you should have turned left. Or better yet somebody told you to try the new restaurant in town because the food is amazing—— only to find out it was the worst food you ever tasted.

But sometimes in life our decisions go deeper than figuring out which way to turn or where to eat.

We have to make major decisions…………….

Should I start my own business or take on a new job?

Should I move or stay put?

Should I buy that house?

Should I marry him/her?

Should I make that huge investment?

Times like these we can’t afford to be given bad advice…..which is why we need to go the source that is ALL KNOWING. According to His word, God promises to give us wisdom and understand. But, as Christians, we have to search for Him, take time to ask Him and obey His word.

God promises to give us knowledge. So, stop fumbling in the dark and let God direct your path. See for yourself in Proverbs 2:6-7 & Proverbs 3:5-6 and mediate on His Word and gain wisdom.

If this was helpful to you, then we would love to hear from you. Leave a comment below and let us know your thoughts. Or if you like please pass on the knowledge to your friends.

Are You Being Spiritually Nourished?

  • Posted on August 24, 2010 at 5:15 pm

Who wouldn’t want to nourish their physical body?

We’ll go through all measures to do so. We try to maintain a healthy diet, take vitamins, and drink water and nutritional juices and exercise. Why not do these things? Who doesn’t want their physical bodies strong?

Well, ever stop to think that……It works the same way in the spiritual realm!

To stay strong, we need to nourish the inner man, our spiritual being. When Jesus Christ died on the cross for us and we accepted HIM as our Lord and Savior. The old self inside of us was put to death and the new self came to life.

But, we need to nourish the inner man with the Word of God.

Nourish the spiritual body by focusing, reading and mediating on these scriptures……….

Colossians 3:16-17 “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”

Galatians 6:9-10 “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”

1 Peter 3:13-15 “And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.”

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

1 Corinthians 10:31-33 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God, just as I also please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”

We will love to hear from you. Let us know what you think!

In Light Of Father’s Day…….A Promise Kept is a Relationship Treasured

  • Posted on June 20, 2010 at 4:12 pm

Few things in life matter as much as being a man of your word.

A MAN WHO WORKS at keeping priorities straight faces a difficult task.

CHILDREN UNDERSTAND the human weaknesses of their dads, and learn to overlook so many faults.

BUT A FATHER WHO TRIES to keep his promises, and is willing to admit when he is wrong;

A MAN WHO LOVES the Lord and his family is a man of integrity——-and that goes a long way toward building family  relationships——–the kind of relationships children will treasure for a lifetime.

A faithful man who can find? The just man walketh in his integrity his children are blessed after HIM.

A Tribute To Women’s Day

  • Posted on May 11, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Two weeks ago, I was asked to do a tribute for Women’s day. I wasn’t exactly sure what everyone wanted to hear. I thought long and hard about it. Finally, I got my AHA moment around 2 AM in the morning. This is what I came up with:

New Light Baptist Church annual women’s day isn’t just a random day in April where we all wear white. It’s a day of celebrating and giving praises to God. Before we can gather together into this place, this church needed to be build. First, you need to lay down the foundation. Our foundation is Jesus Christ because he tasted death on our behalf and made provision for us through forgiveness, healing, deliverance and sanctification, so we can live.

Now, once you have the foundation laid, you can start building the church brick by brick…just like the mothers of our church, who display high standards for the rest of us with prayer, worship and guidance.

Then, you need to put up your walls to keep the cold out….just like our deaconess, who warm our souls and give us encourage and inspiration by serving from their hearts.

After that, you’ll need to put up some doors. So, the ushers can open the door for us to walk into the house of God. And, the missionaries can take the word of God and go through the doors to spread the word of the Gospel.

Of course, you’ll need to put up the windows showcasing the different colors and designs….just like all the sisters in the church with different skills, talents and desires that can be brought together to glorify God.

Lastly, the lights need to be installed and shine bright….just like the young people in our church who represent the bright future.

When you think about Women’s Day, remember this is the day the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it. Let’s be grateful because we serve an on time God and we need to surrender to his ways and say yes Lord because his promises are Yes, Yes and Amen.
