Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Birthday……(Special Day of the Year)

  • Posted on January 16, 2012 at 2:31 pm

Honoring Martin Luther King’s Day is always a special day but this year it’s even more special…………………

Last October, Martin Luther King statue, Stone of Hope, was the first African American monument on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

The “Stone of Hope” features a realistic carving of Dr. King emerging from the rock and commemorates his life-long quest to secure democracy, justice, hope and love, not only African Americans, but for all people.

The theme for the memorial was taken from Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered in Washington, D.C. to approximately 250,000 people.

Hearing the speech will remind you of how far we have come and how much more we have to do. Also, it’ll remind us of how important it is to treat each other with dignity and respect, regardless of the color of our skin. Enjoy it and have a great day!

With much love and blessings,
Laticia and Betty

P.S. Did you know Dr. King said, “With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.”

I Have A Dream…….Tribute To Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Posted on January 17, 2011 at 8:33 pm

The third Monday in January is reserved for Martin Luther King’s birthday. It’s greatly deserved because Martin Luther King put his life on the line so we can have justice in America. It wasn’t just for African Americans but for all people………………………

As you listen to the “I have a dream” speech, reflect on the progress we made and the work we still need to do. Martin Luther King had a dream and we need to live each day moving towards that dream. We can’t do it alone, we must do it together. Leave a comment and give us your thoughts. Let us know what the “I have a dream” speech means to you.

A Tribute To Women’s Day

  • Posted on May 11, 2010 at 4:01 pm

Two weeks ago, I was asked to do a tribute for Women’s day. I wasn’t exactly sure what everyone wanted to hear. I thought long and hard about it. Finally, I got my AHA moment around 2 AM in the morning. This is what I came up with:

New Light Baptist Church annual women’s day isn’t just a random day in April where we all wear white. It’s a day of celebrating and giving praises to God. Before we can gather together into this place, this church needed to be build. First, you need to lay down the foundation. Our foundation is Jesus Christ because he tasted death on our behalf and made provision for us through forgiveness, healing, deliverance and sanctification, so we can live.

Now, once you have the foundation laid, you can start building the church brick by brick…just like the mothers of our church, who display high standards for the rest of us with prayer, worship and guidance.

Then, you need to put up your walls to keep the cold out….just like our deaconess, who warm our souls and give us encourage and inspiration by serving from their hearts.

After that, you’ll need to put up some doors. So, the ushers can open the door for us to walk into the house of God. And, the missionaries can take the word of God and go through the doors to spread the word of the Gospel.

Of course, you’ll need to put up the windows showcasing the different colors and designs….just like all the sisters in the church with different skills, talents and desires that can be brought together to glorify God.

Lastly, the lights need to be installed and shine bright….just like the young people in our church who represent the bright future.

When you think about Women’s Day, remember this is the day the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it. Let’s be grateful because we serve an on time God and we need to surrender to his ways and say yes Lord because his promises are Yes, Yes and Amen.

Christians In The Olympics

  • Posted on February 26, 2010 at 2:41 pm

Nowadays, we’re all hearing a lot about the Winter Olympics. It’s encouraging to see these talented athletes get gold medals, break records and make Olympics history.

And, it should inspire all of us when you hear the stories behind the hard work, determination and dedication these athletes display. Although we learn a lot about these athletes; their hometown, their families, their age, their height and even their weight, there’s one thing that seems to be lacking. Rarely, do we hear about their faith and the anchor that held them together during their obstacles and gave them to strength to be amazing.

Take time to listen to these stories and hear about the one thing that’s missing in the athletes story, their Faith in God—-Chad Hedrick’s Stating and Faith, Kelly Clark’s Snowboarding and Christ and Erin Pac’s Bobsleding and Her Faith.

Now think about it, if God can do miraculous things in their, then imagine what he can do in our lives.
